With programs like Bluestacks, you can enjoy the look, feel, and functionality of your phone’s Android OS right from your home computer. While there are a handful of emulators to choose from, Bluestacks is known for its reliability, easy layout, and customization options. After a ton of complaints and mistakes, Google’s smart home experience is finally coming together. A nice touch on Google’s part is that you can press a single button to turn all of your cameras off or on.
The interface switches back and forth between two main views. There’s a grid view that shows all of your cameras are once as well as a list view that puts one camera feed on screen and has shortcuts to the rest along the left side of the UI. The actual camera feed has limited controls including zoom, mute for audio, and a full-screen button. Google Home for web will be available as a preview as we continue to work on improving it and adding more popular camera features. Some features that are available in the mobile Google Home app or Nest app will not be available in the Google Home for web preview. They're the first to finally leave the awkward dichotomy of the Nest and Google Home app, which is one factor we like about them. However, this decision also leaves quite a few people stranded who prefer to view camera footage on the Nest website. Thankfully, Google has promised that a brand-new web interface is in the making for its latest products, but details are still sparse. Click on the settings icon in the upper right corner and select Settings. I feel that it’s matured enough to deserve this, and it certainly has enough users to warrant an upgrade like this.
Now you're ready to search with Google, wherever you go on the web.
If Home became an SWA, or a system web app – a progressive web app that’s built into the system – it would make such a feature possible! I’m actually pretty surprised that I’ve never personally seen this suggested before. Let me know in the comments if you think this would be useful for you.
With Google's end-to-end tools for building Matter devices and apps, your devices work with Google Home, and any Matter-enabled apps and ecosystems. First, you’d be able to get to it more easily from devices that don’t offer Google apps. More accessibility means more users, and with the increased focus on dropping the price and lowering the bar of entry for the hardware, the software deserves the same approach, don’t you think? Next, being able to sign in securely from a borrowed device and check on your home security would be useful to many. Available exclusively for iOS and Android devices, you won’t find a dedicated desktop app for running your Google smart home on your Mac or PC.
Fitbit Luxe review: Tiny screen, terrific fitness stats
It takes just a few seconds to load up a camera feed after accessing the site, and even with the page open for a while, feeds don’t break. To open a larger view for a specific camera, select the camera's name or live feed. The screen will show the selected camera's feed and a list of all your cameras. The web versions of the Home and Nest apps are optimized to take advantage of your computer's bigger screen and mouse. For example, you can view the live streams of multiple Nest cameras at once, or keep the live stream playing in the background while you work on other things. All websites links must include "https" or "http" to work.
But what’s really great is that Google has taken a page from powerful open-source home automation projects like Home Assistant and included a script editor in Google Home. Before we get anybody too excited too early in the day, it’ll be a few weeks before all the features we’re about to describe go live. The Google Home app can’t be used as a speaker for your PC, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. If you own a Nest speaker, you can easily connect the speaker to your desktop using Bluetooth.

When the main display main is present (i.e., the clock view), the left and right arrow keys can be used to display the keybinding mapping. The keyboards' keys set to valid links can now be pressed in the main display view to transport to another website. Pressing "spacebar" on the main display view will open a search function that can be used to search various website. Customize the search function in the bottom dock settings. The promise comes as part of a discussion on Google's official Nest subreddit, where it announced the new Nest Cams and Doorbell a few days ago. In the discussion unfolding below the announcement, a Redditor asked about a replacement for viewing the camera footage on the web on home.nest.com.
However, you can cast or stream to any of your Google Home or Chromecast devices using Chrome. To view a list of all your cameras' names and the live feed of one camera, select Camera list view in the upper right. Well, I’ve been thinking lately about how you can already view your Nest cameras and other devices by visiting its web interface.

Once you’ve locked down your location preferences and a few other tweaks, you’re ready to use the app. Notably, Google does mention that older Nest cameras won’t show up in this app unless you’ve migrated your account. The same warning pop-up mentions that bandwidth restrictions could lead to a lapse in recording, and that streaming will drain the battery on the newer battery-powered cameras. It is also possible to install Google Assistant on Windows to take full advantage of Google's virtual assistant. However, voice support is limited to streaming media from Chrome to Google Home devices—you'll only enjoy a few simple commands, such as Stop and Max volume. With an emulator, you have full access to all Google Home features.
That said, there are a few workarounds you can implement, allowing you to add Google Home’s intuitive features to your computer of choice. In time, Google hints that more features will be available for Nest cameras through the web. We’d guess this will likely include the ability to view recording history and download clips, just like the older Nest web app. Google Chrome mimics some of the functionality of the Google Home app, but it's limited.
